Christian Haass

Christian Haass is a Professor at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU) and serves as the Director at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) and LMU's Biomedical Center (BMC). His research focuses on the discovery of cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying dementia, particularly Alzheimer's disease (AD), Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration (FTLD), and Neuroinflammation.

Haass's lab investigates key aspects of AD research, including regulation of BACE expression, alternative APP processing pathways, Aβ clearance mechanisms, microglial activation and function, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) markers through collaborations like the Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer Network (DIAN). His work combines biomedical neuroscience with translational approaches to address neurodegenerative pathologies.

The trends in Haass's publications highlight his expertise in amyloid biology, neuroinflammation, and neurodegenerative disease mechanisms. His studies span molecular biology, proteomics, and translational medicine, focusing on TREM2 mutations, secretase processing, and microglial roles in AD. These works often employ in vitro models, human samples, and advanced imaging techniques.

He actively mentors PhD students and fast-track trainees such as Ida Pesämaa, Sophie Robinson, and Matteo Rovere. Haass is affiliated with the Munich Cluster for Systems Neurology (MCN) and the Graduate School of Systemic Neuroscience (GSN), fostering interdisciplinary research collaborations.
