Prof. Dr. Harald Steiner is a group leader at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) in Munich, Germany. His research focuses on the biochemical mechanisms underlying Alzheimer's disease (AD), particularly the role of γ-secretase in amyloid-β (Aβ) peptide production.
- Current research areas include molecular recognition of γ-secretase substrates and modulation of γ-secretase activity
- Investigates proteolytic processing of β-amyloid precursor protein (APP) by β- and γ-secretase
- Studies intramembrane proteolysis through the γ-secretase complex composed of presenilin, nicastrin, APH-1, and PEN-2
