معرفی
Christian Haass is a Group Leader and Site Speaker at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) in Munich, Germany. With a research career spanning over three decades, he has pioneered studies on Alzheimer's disease (AD) since 1990, focusing on amyloid-β-peptide (Aβ) formation and metabolism. His groundbreaking work identified physiological roles for secretase enzymes and revealed novel mechanisms in neurodegeneration.
- Key contributions: Discovery of beta/gamma-secretase mechanisms
- Identification of alpha-secretase's protective role
- Characterization of TREM2 as a CSF biomarker for microglial activity
His research has fundamentally shaped the amyloid cascade hypothesis and informed therapeutic approaches targeting secretase inhibition. Recent work on microglial phagocytosis in late-stage neurodegeneration has opened new avenues for treating symptomatic patients.
Based at DZNE Munich, his laboratory investigates cellular mechanisms of Aβ production and neuroinflammatory processes in neurodegenerative diseases. His team's work on APP processing pathways continues to influence clinical trial strategies.
