John Green

John Green is a Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at California State University, Fresno's Lyles College of Engineering, where he has served since 2019. A licensed Professional Engineer in 13 states, he brings over two decades of railroading and consulting engineering experience to his academic role.

Dr. Green's research centers on railroad engineering with three primary thrusts: high-speed rail systems development, railroad freight transportation optimization, and innovative railroad engineering education methodologies. His work bridges academic theory with industry practice through active collaboration with railroad operators and regulatory bodies.

His recent publications (2015-2021) reveal a strong focus on Precision Scheduled Railroading impacts, high-speed rail standardization, and infrastructure investment dynamics. These works demonstrate interdisciplinary integration of transportation engineering, economic analysis, and policy development within North American and international rail contexts.

Dr. Green currently serves as Co-Principal Investigator on a Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) workforce development initiative to enhance engineering recruitment in rail careers. He also leads Fresno State's component of an FRA-sponsored multi-university consortium conducting summer programs to inspire high school students toward railroading careers. His professional leadership includes chairing AREMA's Committee on Education and Professional Development and past presidency of ASCE's Illinois Section.
