Ching Chiaw Choo

Dr. Ching Chiaw Choo serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at California State University, Fresno's Lyles College of Engineering. A licensed Professional Engineer in Arizona (License #55168) and California (License #82202), he joined the faculty in Fall 2007 after research experience at the Kentucky Transportation Center and maintains active professional certifications including California Post-Disaster Safety Assessment Evaluator status.

Dr. Choo's research spans structural engineering with emphasis on concrete and steel systems, advanced composite materials, and infrastructure resilience. His expertise covers prestressed concrete design, FRP applications, seismic retrofitting of bridges, railroad engineering, and workforce development initiatives. This multidisciplinary focus has generated over 40 publications across journals, conferences, and technical reports.

Dr. Choo demonstrates exceptional grant leadership with major projects including a $204,000 Federal Railroad Administration initiative on rail education, a $19,500 national rail workforce program, and campus-based STEAM pathways development. He actively mentors students, particularly from underrepresented groups, while teaching core structural engineering courses ranging from undergraduate statics to advanced graduate-level concrete design.

Professional engagement includes ABET Program Evaluation since 2023 and service as a reviewer for engineering journals through memberships in ASCE, ACI, AISC, and ASEE.
