John Goodby is a Professor of Arts and Culture at Sheffield Hallam University, affiliated with the Culture and Creativity Research Institute and the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research. His research focuses on Irish writing, Welsh poetry, British/US modernist poetry, and Dylan Thomas studies. He has collaborated with institutions like the BBC, British Library, and British Council. His poetry collections include The No Breath and The Ars, and he has translated works from German, French, and Italian.
Education: BA (Hons) English (Hull University), MA and PhD in Modern Irish Poetry (Leeds University). Former academic roles include positions at Leeds University, University College Cork, and Swansea University. Current projects include a Dylan Thomas biography and poetry collaborations. Awards include the P.E.N. Award and Cardiff International Poetry Competition First Prize.
Advises PhD students in English/US literature and creative writing. Collaborations include the Boiled String press and international exchanges (e.g., Köln University). Active in poetry festivals, anthologies, and performance art. Recent activities include organizing virtual poetry events and contributing to Blackbox Manifold on Welsh innovative poetry.
