Jonathan Bridle is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Humanities at Sheffield Hallam University, affiliated with the Humanities Research Centre. He specializes in screenwriting and British television history, with a focus on bridging academic study and professional practice in the creative industries. His teaching includes modules such as Introduction to Screenwriting and Screenwriting Project within the BA Film Studies and Screenwriting program.
Education: BA in English and Creative Writing (University of Derby, 2001), MA in Writing for Performance and Publication (University of Leeds), and Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (Sheffield Hallam University, 2011).
Research interests include screenwriting pedagogy, British television historiography, and the practical application of creative writing in media contexts. He has collaborated on feature films (e.g., The Move) and short films (e.g., The Doll), alongside writing for comedy shows like That Mitchell and Webb Look and Ask Rhod Gilbert.
He supervises postgraduate research, including a study on women in stand-up comedy. Awards include Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
