Phil Charles is a Senior Lecturer in Scriptwriting at Sheffield Hallam University, working part-time. He specializes in screenwriting for film and TV, with industry experience in TV series (Shameless, Doctors), feature films, and stage projects. A British Screenwriters’ Award winner, he advocates for writers from disadvantaged backgrounds through his affiliation with the Alliance of Working Class Academics.
Teaching: Teaches BA (Hons) Screenwriting & Film courses including Half Hour Script, Reading Scripts, and Final Script modules. Former advertising copywriter with professional creative career insights.
Research: Engaged in original projects across Film, TV & Stage through the Culture and Creativity Research Institute. Serves as academic advisor for MA Screenwriting at University of the Arts London.
