John Dickson is the Jean Kvamme Distinguished Professor of Biblical Studies and Public Christianity at Wheaton College, Illinois. He is also a Visiting Academic in the Faculty of Classics at the University of Oxford and holds honorary research affiliations with the University of Sydney, Sydney College of Divinity, and Ridley College, Melbourne. An ordained Anglican clergyman, he previously pastored in Sydney and taught at Moore Theological College, Macquarie University, and the University of Sydney.
His academic background includes a Bachelor of Theology with First Class Honours from Moore Theological College and a PhD in Ancient History from Macquarie University, focusing on the expansion of Christianity in the Jewish and Graeco-Roman worlds.
John Dickson's research centers on early Christianity, New Testament studies, historical Jesus, Pauline theology, and public Christianity. His work explores the historical, cultural, and theological dimensions of Christian origins, particularly mission, humility, and creeds as educational tools. He examines the use of mnemonic devices in ancient education and religious instruction, bridging classical and early Christian traditions.
