John Baker

John Baker is an Instructional Associate Professor at the School of Journalism and New Media, University of Mississippi. He teaches research methods, writing courses, and news reporting, with research focusing on First Amendment rights, media ecology, and the intersection of religion and media.

• Education: Ph.D. in Communication & Information (University of Tennessee-Knoxville, 2022), M.A. in Journalism (University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2012), B.S. in Mass Communication (McNeese State University, 1999).

Baker’s research explores legal frameworks of media freedom, theoretical analyses of media environments, and the sociocultural dynamics between religious discourse and mass communication platforms. His work bridges policy studies with media theory.

He previously contributed to academic instruction at the University of Tennessee and University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and served as a juror for the CINE Golden Eagle documentary competition.
