Zenebe Beyene is an Associate Professor in the Department of Media and Communication at the University of Mississippi’s School of Journalism and New Media. He specializes in media’s role in conflict/post-conflict societies, with expertise in ICT applications for peacebuilding, governance, and democratic processes. His work bridges political science and media studies, focusing on Africa and Ethiopia in particular.

Research Interests: Dr. Beyene investigates media’s impact on conflict resolution, minority representation, and democratic institutions. He explores how ICT innovations like TeleCourt reshape justice perceptions in Ethiopia and how online discourse influences political tolerance. His work emphasizes cross-cultural communication and the ethical dimensions of media in transitional societies.
Professional Experience: He has consulted for organizations including InterNews Network, USAID, UNDP, and Voice of America. His publications address topics like media use/abuse in Ethiopia, music’s role in Ethiopian political history, and peacebuilding through listening practices. He co-edited Listening, Community Engagement and Peace Building: An International Perspective and guest-edited the International Journal of Ethiopian Studies.
