Jane Kirtley

Jane Kirtley is the Silha Professor of Media Ethics and Law at the University of Minnesota's Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication, within the College of Liberal Arts. She serves as Director of the Silha Center for the Study of Media Ethics and Law and is affiliated with the University of Minnesota Law School. Her career spans academia, legal practice, and journalism.

• Education: B.S.J. and M.S.J. from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism; J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School.

Kirtley specializes in First Amendment law, freedom of information, media ethics, and legal ethics. She has contributed to high-profile U.S. Supreme Court cases through amicus briefs and frequently writes for The New York Times, The Conversation, and The Guardian (UK). Her work intersects constitutional law, defamation, and open records legislation.
