John Alexander Lobur is a Professor of Classics at the University of Mississippi's Department of Classics, housed within the College of Liberal Arts. He holds a B.A. from Kalamazoo College (1995) and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (2004). His research focuses on Early Imperial Roman history, literature, and political ideology, particularly exploring how rhetoric and historiography shaped imperial identity. He authored influential works like *Cornelius Nepos: A Study in the Evidence and Influence* (2021) and *Consensus, Concordia and the Formation of Roman Imperial Ideology* (2008).
Teaching responsibilities include courses on Roman civilization, the Republic/Empire transition, and Latin language instruction at all levels. His recent scholarship examines Roman declamation, civil war narratives, and the cultural concept of 'peace' (pax) in transitioning political systems. He actively contributes to Latin pedagogy through innovative course design integrating his monographs.
