Johannes Schuster is a postdoctoral researcher and interim professor (Vertretung) for Political Education and Social Change at the University of Leipzig, affiliated with the Department of Political Education and Educational Systems within the Humanities Center. He has previously represented the professorship for Political Education and Educational Systems and has been a scientific staff member since 2020.
His research interests span political socialization, youth participation, conspiracy narratives, social network analysis, educational networks, and social media analysis. His work bridges political science and educational research, particularly focusing on inclusive education, digital discourse, and youth political attitudes in contemporary crises such as the war in Ukraine.
His recent publications highlight trends in analyzing digital policy debates using social network methods, youth belief systems, and teacher collaboration structures. These works reflect a strong methodological focus on empirical and network-based approaches to understanding political and educational dynamics.
Johannes Schuster completed his PhD at Freie Universität Berlin, supervised by Prof. Dr. Nina Kolleck and Prof. Dr. Miri Yemini. He has taught courses such as Media Education, Political Education, Human Rights Education, and Political Socialization at the University of Leipzig.
He has been involved in DFG-funded research projects, including the CONNECT project, and has contributed to advancing understanding of global education policy networks and youth political engagement.
Johannes Schuster is actively engaged in research and teaching, leading an ongoing research agenda in political education and social change without indication of retirement or part-time status.
