Johannes Göransson is a Professor of English and Director of Creative Writing at the University of Notre Dame, affiliated with the College of Arts and Letters. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia, an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, and a B.A. from the University of Minnesota. His work bridges poetry, translation, and literary criticism, focusing on American and Swedish literature, translation theory, and postcolonial studies.
Research interests include American Poetry, Swedish Poetry, Poetry in Translation, and Translation Theory. He has published extensively, including books like Summer (2022) and Transgressive Circulation: Essays on Translation (2018), and translated works by Aase Berg and Henry Parland. His interdisciplinary approach spans creative writing, avant-garde practices, and cultural critique.
Göransson’s awards include grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Swedish Arts Council. He co-publishes the literary press Action Books with Joyelle McSweeney, emphasizing experimental and international voices. Key contributions include over 500 academic lectures, conference papers, and editorial roles, alongside teaching and mentoring numerous graduate students.
His work often explores trauma, identity, and language through experimental forms, reflecting a commitment to pushing literary boundaries while engaging with global cultural dialogues.
