Jennifer Firestone is an Associate Professor of Writing and Co-Chair of Literary Studies at the Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts, The New School. She also serves as Director of Academic Fellows and teaches courses emphasizing experimental poetics, feminist avant-garde, and collaborative writing. Her work interrogates subjectivity, language performance, and ambiguity through serial poetry and fragmented aesthetics.
Holds an MFA in Poetry from San Francisco State University. Professional affiliations include the Belladonna* Collaborative, a leading avant-garde poetry collective.
Research focuses on 20th/21st-century experimental poetry, feminist avant-garde practices, documentary poetics, and small press publishing. Recent publications include Story (2019) and the co-edited anthology Other Influences (MIT Press, 2024).
Recipient of notable awards: Gates & Fields (2017) was named a top poetry book by The Brooklyn Rail and LitHub; 2014 Robert Creeley Memorial Prize; multiple residencies including Eugene Lang’s Civic Arts fellowship. Active in NYC literary scenes via performances at venues like The Poetry Project and Dixon Place.
Teaching emphasizes process over product, with courses like Feminist Avant-Garde Poetics (LLSW 3100) and Advanced Fellows (LNGC 3965). Grants include New School’s Mutual Mentoring initiative.
