Dr. Michael Kindellan is a Lecturer in Modern Literature at the School of English, University of Sheffield, specializing in 20th century poetry and poetics. He has held postdoctoral positions at the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Universität Bayreuth, Germany) and Université Paul-Valéry (Montpellier III, France), and served as a Vice Chancellor’s Fellow at Sheffield until 2019. His educational background includes a DPhil from the University of Sussex, an MSt from the University of Cambridge, and a BA from McGill University.
Research interests focus on modernist, mid-century, and avant-garde writing, particularly Ezra Pound and Charles Olson. His methodologies blend archival research with literary criticism. Key projects include co-editing an essay collection on John Wieners and directing the Centre for Poetry and Poetics. Current work explores Olson’s pedagogical poetics and educational dimensions in modernist writing.
Teaching contributions span undergraduate modules like America and the Avant-Garde and Modern Literature, and postgraduate courses such as Small Press Publishing since 1960 and Mid Century Modernism. He supervises PhD students in 20th century Anglo-American poetry and poetics, emphasizing archival and critical engagement.
Labs/Teams: Co-director of the Centre for Poetry and Poetics and oversees the School of English’s press Constitutional Information. His work intersects literary studies with publishing practices and educational frameworks.
