Barrett Watten is a Professor of English at Wayne State University, renowned for his contributions to avant-garde studies, modernist literature, and poetry. He holds a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley (1995) and has authored seminal works like Total Syntax (1985) and The Constructivist Moment (2004, Wellek Prize winner). His research spans 20th/21st-century literature, postmodern culture, and digital poetics. Watten co-edited influential volumes such as Diasporic Avant-Gardes (2008) and Poetics Journal Digital Archive (2015). He has received prestigious awards including the Fulbright Fellowship (2005) and the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship (1979–80).
