Johan Colding is a Professor of Natural Resource Management at the University of Gävle. He serves as a research coordinator for HiG Urban Studio, a strategic research program focused on urban sustainability through interdisciplinary integration of socio-technical and social-ecological approaches. Additionally, he is the director of the Urban Social-Ecological Systems program at the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics and co-theme leader for urban research at the Stockholm Resilience Centre.
Research Focus: His work centers on advancing sustainable urban development by analyzing ecological resilience, city-densification, and environmental rationales for urban compaction. Projects include:
- 3-year grant (2018-2020) from FORMAS on city-densification and ecological resilience
- 3-year grant (2017-2019) from Stockholm County Council and S.U. Hälsa on Stockholm region urban compaction
