Johan Kjellberg Jensen is an active Researcher at Lund University's Centre for Environmental and Climate Science (CEC), affiliated with the BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate initiative. His work bridges urban ecology and human-environment interactions within Lund's research ecosystem.
His research spans two interconnected domains:
- Ecosystem responses to urban stressors (air pollution, artificial light, vegetation changes) across multiple taxa (trees, arthropods, birds)
- Human health and behavioral outcomes from nature connection in urban settings
His publication portfolio demonstrates strong interdisciplinary reach across conservation biology, environmental physiology, and urban policy. Recent works highlight critical gaps in evidence-based urban greening practices and innovative approaches to schoolyard biodiversity integration.
Award highlights include:
- 2023 Honorary Laurate Agenda 2030 Award for SDG contributions
- Back-to-back presentation awards at BOU 2023 and BLAM 2022 conferences
His collaborative network spans 55 documented activities including media engagements (DN, Hufvudstadsbladet), policy workshops with LU Land, and international conference participations. Current research focuses on temporal effects of tree composition on urban birds (funded by The Royal Physiographic Society) and the BODIL project examining biodiversity in literature as an ecological literacy metric.
He contributes to multiple high-impact initiatives advancing UN Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health), 11 (Sustainable Cities), and 15 (Life on Land), with particular emphasis on translating ecological research into municipal planning practices.
