Johan Axhamn is a Senior Lecturer at Stockholm University’s Faculty of Law, specializing in intellectual property law. He holds an LL.D. in Intellectual Property Law and an LL.M. and MSc in Business and Economics. He teaches and researches broadly in IP law, with a focus on copyright, European law, and international trade agreements.
Research Interests:
- EU Database Directive and sui generis database rights
- Copyright in the digital environment
- Intersection of IP law with competition law and fundamental rights
- Cross-border access models and Europeana initiatives
His recent work includes a doctoral dissertation on database protection and policy reports for EuropeanaConnect. He has published a book on sui generis database rights and numerous scholarly articles.
Professional Service:
- Sweden’s delegate to WIPO Intergovernmental Committee on IP and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore
- Former special adviser to the Swedish Ministry of Justice on copyright and enforcement
- Contributor to ACTA negotiations during Sweden’s EU Presidency
He is a member of professional bodies such as the Swedish Copyright Society (ALAI), AIPPI, ATRIP, and the Swedish Network for European Legal Studies. He frequently speaks at international conferences on copyright and IP policy.
