Dr. Joanne Turner is the Associate Professor of Criminology and Head of Department for Criminology, Policing and Forensic Science at Staffordshire University. She holds a part-time lecturing role in the School of Health, Education, Policing and Sciences. With extensive experience in criminological education, she has taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and serves as an external examiner at the Universities of Hertfordshire and West of England (UWE). Her research focuses on the history of crime and punishment, female offending, women’s experiences within the criminal justice system, desistance from offending, and police custody units. Turner has supervised numerous doctoral candidates and contributes actively to academic discourse through book chapters and journal articles. Beyond academia, she serves as a Justice of the Peace in North Staffordshire and participates in policy committees for the Magistrates’ Association.
