Dr. Joanne Marien serves as a core clinical faculty member in the Educational Leadership doctoral program at Manhattanville College, teaching since the program's inception. With nearly 40 years of field experience in the Putnam-Northern Westchester region, she has held leadership roles including Superintendent of Schools, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, Director of Special Services, and Principal.

Her research spans instructional pedagogy, curricular design, special education, and organizational leadership, with pioneering work in human rights education and civic engagement. She developed groundbreaking initiatives through RFK Human Rights' Speak Truth to Power program, emphasizing social justice in educational frameworks. Her scholarship integrates social-emotional learning with systemic school reform, focusing on practical applications for K-12 administrators.

As former President of the Putnam-Northern Westchester Superintendent’s Association and advisor to the NYS Commissioner of Education, she has shaped regional education policy while mentoring emerging administrators. Her leadership in special education services and district-wide instructional design has been recognized for excellence at local, state, and national levels. She maintains active collaboration with RFK Human Rights on human rights curriculum development.
