Dr. Jane Cobia is a Professor and Director of the doctoral program in the Orlean Beeson School of Education at Samford University. With 25 years of public education experience, she has served as a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, education specialist at the Alabama State Department of Education, and superintendent. She is also a certified superintendent mentor trainer, executive director of Alabama ASCD, treasurer for Sylacauga Rotary Club, and a founding member of the Marble Valley DAR Chapter. Her roles include board memberships in organizations like ASCD, CLAS, and KDP, alongside civic involvement in initiatives such as the Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement.
Dr. Cobia holds an EdD in Curriculum and Instruction with Administration from the University of Alabama, an MA in Education with Administrative Certification from the same institution, and a BS in Home Economics Education from Jacksonville State University. She has completed leadership programs including the Superintendent's Leadership Network and Alabama Superintendent's Academy.
Her research expertise focuses on leadership and administration, school finances, team-building strategies, and resiliency in educational settings. She emphasizes practical applications of leadership principles to foster high-performing schools and supports holistic educator well-being through resilience frameworks. Her work explores gender dynamics in administrative roles and international comparative education systems.
Her publications and presentations reflect trends in leadership development and systemic challenges in education. Notable contributions include co-authoring a leadership handbook and analyzing barriers faced by female superintendents. She has presented globally at conferences like the Hawaii International Conference on Education and the ASCD International Conference.
Awardees of her service include the Leadership Alabama Class XVI, CLAS State Leadership Award, and the Distinguished Service Award from the Cheaha District Boy Scouts of America. She also received recognition for innovative curriculum design from Alabama ASCD.
Dr. Cobia advises through mentorship programs and serves as an adjunct instructor at Jacksonville State University, University of Montevallo, and Auburn University at Montgomery. Her involvement spans professional organizations (ASCD, KDP, CLAS) and community initiatives, balancing academic and civic leadership roles.
