Andrea M. Kane

Andrea M. Kane is a Professor of Practice in Educational Leadership at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. She previously served as Superintendent of Queen Anne’s County Public Schools in Maryland, where she led transformative initiatives including achieving 100% Green School certification, securing a National Blue Ribbon School designation, and implementing Maryland’s first fully virtual learning program for K-12 students. Her leadership emphasized equity, environmental stewardship, and culturally responsive practices.

Dr. Kane’s career spans over 25 years in K-12 education, holding roles from classroom teacher to district superintendent. Her administrative expertise includes curriculum development, school improvement strategies, and fostering diverse educational opportunities for underrepresented students. She co-authored Coaching Champions: How to Understand the Players Before Giving the Plays (2019), focusing on leadership development.

Research interests center on culturally relevant pedagogy, equity in education, and leadership practices. She holds a doctorate integrating socio-cultural theory with quantitative studies on mathematics achievement among African American males. Awards include the Governor’s Citation for instructional leadership and induction into Baltimore City College’s Hall of Fame.

Dr. Kane currently chairs the Superintendent’s Environmental Education Collaborative and serves on the Maryland Association of Environmental & Outdoor Education board. She advocates for Black boys’ academic equity through the Achieving Academic Equity Task Force with the Maryland State Department of Education.
