Joanne Flavel

Dr. Joanne Flavel is an NHMRC Grant-Funded Researcher B at the University of Adelaide's School of Social Sciences, affiliated with the Stretton Health Equity Institute within the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law, and Economics. She specializes in health equity, social determinants of health, and the labor market experiences of temporary migrants and refugees. Her work bridges epidemiology, public health, and policy analysis, with a focus on interdisciplinary research.

Dr. Flavel holds qualifications in economics and public health, and has previously worked at the Southgate Institute and National Institute of Labour Studies. She is a member of the international Punching Above Weight (PAW) Network and collaborates with the Global Burden of Disease initiative. Her research emphasizes policy-driven solutions to health inequities, particularly post-pandemic recovery and addressing disparities faced by marginalized groups.
