Joanna Maselko, ScD, is a Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Gillings School of Global Public Health. Her research focuses on social epidemiology and global mental health, particularly examining how social contexts influence developmental risk trajectories across the life course. She leads the Bachpan Birth Cohort in Pakistan, studying maternal depression interventions and their long-term impacts on child development. Maselko also investigates aging populations, intergenerational caregiving in Sri Lanka and the US, and the role of religious engagement in health outcomes.
