Dr. Joan S. Reisch has been a faculty member at UT Southwestern Medical Center since 1974, holding key roles including Director of Academic Computing Services (1988-1989), Head of the Division of Biostatistics in the Department of Clinical Sciences (2007 onward), and Assistant Director of the Center for Biostatistics and Clinical Science (2003-2007). She directed the Statistics and Data Management Core for the Alzheimer’s Disease Center from 1988 to 2016 and led the Data Coordinating Center for the Texas Alzheimer's Research and Care Consortium until 2019. Her expertise spans biostatistics, clinical trial design, and healthcare data management.
- Education: PhD in Mathematical Statistics from Southern Methodist University
Her research focuses on statistical methodologies for clinical research, Alzheimer’s disease epidemiology, and healthcare equity. She has contributed to over 180 publications, with recent work addressing diversity in medical leadership roles, predictive modeling in infectious diseases, and postoperative pain management. Dr. Reisch is a frequent NIH reviewer and has served 40 years on the Institutional Review Board for Human Research.
Teaching responsibilities include conceptual biostatistics courses and critical literature analysis for medical students. She has advised over 27 thesis committees in Clinical Psychology and Medical Computer Science. Notably, she has managed compensation equity analysis for the university since 1999.
