Professor Jo Warin is a Professor in Gender and Social Relationships in Education at Lancaster University's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), Department of Educational Research. Her work focuses on gender identities in early childhood education, particularly men's participation in teaching and care roles, advocating for gender-flexible pedagogy. She also examines socio-emotional development in schools, including identity formation, nurture groups for children with socio-emotional challenges, and restorative practices.
Research & Projects: Current projects include the ESRC GenderEYE initiative (2019-2019) and studies on restorative practice in schools. She leads the 'Gender, Teaching and Care' international network (2012–present). Her 2003–2017 longitudinal study tracked pupil identity development from age 3 to 17.
Professional Involvement: Member of the British Educational Research Association, British Psychological Society, and Gender and Education Association. Supervises PhD students on topics like parenting, home-school relationships, and gender issues in early years education.
