Jo Poppleton is an Associate Professor in Literature at the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing, University of East Anglia (UEA). She is a member of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century Research Group and has been a full-time academic since 2009.
Research Interests: Her work focuses on satire from antiquity to the modern era, literary fakery, and the interplay between literature and science in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. She explores print culture, aesthetics, the evolution of the sublime, religious verse, and poetry about nature. Her research bridges literary, historical, and scientific domains.
Teaching Activities: She has designed and convened numerous undergraduate modules across historical periods and themes, including Seventeenth-Century Writing, Eighteenth-Century Writing, Shakespeare, Satire, Fakes and Frauds, and interdisciplinary courses like Literature and Science (1660–1750). She also developed 'The Business of Books' and 'Reading and Writing Criticism'.
Administrative Roles: Jo served as LDC Director of Teaching Quality (2010–2013) and LDC Director of Teaching (2011–2017), contributing to faculty committees and educational leadership.
