Dr. Jimmy Dikeakos is an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Western Ontario, leading the Dikeakos Laboratory focused on cellular trafficking in infected cells.
Education:
- PhD from Université de Montréal
- Postdoctoral training at Vollum Institute, Oregon
Research Focus: His laboratory studies protein movement within HIV-infected cells, particularly HIV-1 accessory protein Nef's interactions with host cellular partners. Research examines how Nef modulates membrane trafficking pathways to evade immune detection by altering MHC-I trafficking, T-cell activation, apoptosis, and autophagy pathways.
Laboratory: The Reagan Laboratory at Maine Medical Center investigates bone marrow fat-tumor cell interactions in multiple myeloma, supported by NIH/NCI R37 and American Cancer Society grants.
Technical Expertise: Utilizes advanced microscopy techniques and structural biology approaches to study protein interactions and trafficking mechanisms in viral pathogenesis.
