معرفی
Associate Professor Jim Manos is a leading researcher in bacterial pathogenesis and biofilm infections at the University of Sydney's School of Medical Sciences. His work focuses on cystic fibrosis pathogens, antimicrobial resistance, and biofilm disruption therapies. He holds a BSc (Hons 1st Class) and PhD from UNSW and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Currently, he leads the Bacterial Pathogens Research Group and teaches in three courses: INFD3888 (Undergraduate), GMP/GDP (Postgraduate), and INIM (Graduate Program in Infection and Immunity).
Research interests include developing novel therapies for biofilm-associated infections, particularly targeting urinary tract infections and cystic fibrosis. He has secured over $5.2M in grants, including a $4.15M IMCRC grant for biofilm disruption technology. His lab collaborates internationally with institutions like Laval University (Canada) and the University of Liverpool (UK). Key achievements include patents for biofilm-disrupting compositions and the 2021 FASM fellowship.
- Awarded over 2500 citations with an h-index of 27 (Google Scholar).
- Recipient of the 2021 FASM fellowship and multiple grants including CDIP, NHMRC, and Sydney-ID seed funds.
- Supervised four PhD completions and mentored over 245 students.
Recent work highlights N-acetylcysteine's efficacy in biofilm disruption and antibiotic synergy, with applications in catheter-associated UTIs and cystic fibrosis lung infections. His research bridges clinical microbiology and biomedical innovation, addressing unmet needs in infectious disease treatment.
