Jim Farney

Jim Farney is a Professor and Regina Director at the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy (University of Regina). He previously served as Head of the University of Regina's Department of Politics and International Studies. With a PhD in Political Science from the University of Toronto and MA/BA from the University of Saskatchewan, his career focuses on Canadian politics, education policy, and conservatism.

His research spans Canadian education policy, provincial institutional change, political parties, and conservatism. Recent work analyzes school choice, fiscal impacts of education policies, and religious school funding across Canadian provinces.

Scientific recognition includes an Honourable Mention for the Seymour Martin Lipset Book Award (2023) for *Faith, Rights, and Choice: The Politics of Religious Schools in Canada*. He leads SSHRC-funded research on school choice impacts.

Jim Farney currently does not accept new MPP or PhD students for 2026. He contributes to the Comparative Education Policy Network and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on governance and policy analysis projects.
