Jill Christman is a Professor of English at Ball State University, specializing in creative nonfiction writing and literary editing. She holds leadership roles as Senior Editor for River Teeth and Beautiful Things, and executive producer of the podcast Indelible: Campus Sexual Violence. Her research focuses on memoir, trauma, family dynamics, and feminist narratives.
Christman’s major works include the memoirs Darkroom: A Family Exposure (AWP Prize winner) and If This Were Fiction: A Love Story in Essays, alongside essays published in Brevity, Creative Nonfiction, and Fourth Genre. Notable awards include the 2020 NEA Prose Fellowship and the 2021 Iron Horse Literary Review Long Story Prize for Falling.
Her teaching spans undergraduate and graduate levels, with a focus on creative nonfiction. She has coordinated initiatives like the Writer-in-Residence Program and the In Print Festival of First Books. Her interdisciplinary work bridges literary arts and social justice, particularly around campus sexual violence awareness.
