Assoc. Prof. Maureen Stanton is an award-winning author and educator at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, specializing in creative nonfiction and memoir. She holds an Associate Professor rank in the English Department within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Her work bridges literary journalism with personal narrative, focusing on themes like addiction, family, and cultural history. Stanton’s notable publications include the memoir Body Leaping Backward (2019), winner of the Maine Literary Award, and Killer Stuff and Tons of Money (2011), honored with the Massachusetts Book Award. She has also received Pushcart Prizes and fellowships from the NEA and MacDowell Colony.
Her research interests span creative writing pedagogy, antiques industry dynamics, and the intersection of personal and societal narratives. Stanton teaches courses on reflective writing and creative nonfiction, emphasizing diverse student voices.
