Brian Morton

Brian Morton holds The Michele Tolela Myers Chair in Writing at Sarah Lawrence College, where he has taught since 1998. His academic career centers on creative writing instruction across multiple genres including fiction, creative nonfiction, and literary analysis.

Morton's research interests focus on creative writing techniques, the craft of fiction, memoir writing, and literary criticism. His teaching portfolio includes courses such as Nonfiction Workshop: Writing the Reflective Essay, The Art of the Novella, 13 Ways of Looking at a Novel, and Encounters With the Novel, demonstrating his broad expertise in narrative forms.

His recent publications reveal a progression from literary fiction toward reflective memoir, with Tasha (2022) examining complex family dynamics and elder care. This work represents a shift toward more personal narrative while maintaining his signature literary precision and emotional depth.
