Professor Jessica Teeling is a Professor of Experimental Neuroimmunology at the University of Southampton, affiliated with the School of Biological Sciences. Her research focuses on neuroimmunology, systemic inflammation, and antibody-mediated immunotherapies targeting neurodegenerative diseases. Her team investigates how bacterial infections, oral/gut microbiome, and systemic inflammation contribute to neurodegenerative disorders, using clinical samples, post-mortem tissue, and in vitro/in vivo assays.
Teaching responsibilities include coordinating the BIOL2022 immunology module for undergraduates and the third-year BIOL3058 'Bioscience and Business' dissertation module. She teaches topics such as innate immunity, autoimmunity, TLR signaling, cytokines, and antibody engineering.
Current PhD supervision includes seven students across Biological Sciences and Cancer Sciences programs. She coordinates collaborative research projects like the RESIST study examining cognitive changes in rheumatoid arthritis patients. Her work aims to develop novel immunotherapies for amyloid/synuclein-driven neurodegenerative diseases.
Research interests span neuroinflammation mechanisms, microbiome interactions, and translational immunotherapy development. She collaborates with clinical and biomedical teams to bridge basic science and clinical applications in neurodegenerative disease treatment.
