Dr. Jeremi W. Edwards serves as Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Composition and Coordinator of Music Theory within McNeese State University's W.A. and Dorothy Hanna Department of Performing Arts, teaching courses including Music Fundamentals, Principles of Music series, Music of the 20th Century, and Orchestration.
His educational background includes:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from McNeese State University
- Master of Music in Theory and Composition from University of Louisiana at Lafayette
- Doctor of Philosophy in Music Composition from Louisiana State University (2022)
Dr. Edwards' research synthesizes neo-classical textures and impressionistic harmonic structures, with his doctoral dissertation exploring contemporary composition pedagogy and an aleatoric event score collaboration with the LSU Museum of Art. He actively pursues commission projects for student, community, and professional ensembles to foster musical innovation.
Through his board memberships with the Lake Charles Community Band, New Music on the Bayou Summer Festival, and Cultural Noir Performing Arts Theater Company, Dr. Edwards demonstrates significant community engagement. His professional affiliations include the Society for Music Theory, South-Central Society for Music Theory, Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, BMI as Classical Composer, and participation in Louisiana and Texas Music Educators Associations.
