Jeffrey J. Lemke is a Professor of Music and Coordinator of Instrumental Music Education at McNeese State University's W.A. and Dorothy Hanna Department of Performing Arts, where he also serves as Faculty Athletics Representative. He teaches instrumental methods, historical foundations of music education, and popular music courses including History of Rock & Roll for non-majors, while hosting the radio program "The School of Rock" on KBYS 88.3.
He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Master's/Doctoral degrees from the University of Arizona in music education and trombone performance.
His research spans Instrumental Music Education, Popular Music Studies, and Rock History, evidenced by his acclaimed book French Music for Low Brass Instruments and current work on a Beatles history textbook. His scholarship bridges pedagogical theory with popular music analysis.
Professional recognition includes:
- Orpheus Award from Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia for significant contributions to American music
Dr. Lemke maintains active leadership in national organizations including the College Band Directors National Association and Louisiana Music Educators Association, while frequently serving as guest conductor and clinician for bands nationwide.
