Professor Jenny Fleming holds the Chair in Criminology at the University of Southampton. She is affiliated with multiple research groups including the Institute of Criminal Justice Research, Work Futures Research Centre, and Southampton Ethics Centre. Her research focuses on policing studies, police ethnography, criminal justice reform, and youth offending interventions. Current projects include leading the ESRC-funded 'Evidence Based Crime Reduction Consortium' and co-investigating the NIHR-funded 'Gateway' trial evaluating community-based interventions for young offenders.
Key research interests span cross-national policing comparisons, organizational dynamics within law enforcement, and the intersection of health/well-being with criminal justice systems. Her work emphasizes methodological rigor in ethnographic studies and evidence-based policy development. Supervising PhD candidate Catrice Pendleton in Sociology, Soc Pol & Crim, she maintains active collaboration with institutions like UCL and international researchers through her extensive publication record.
