Jennifer Mylander is an Associate Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at San Francisco State University. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Her research focuses on early modern literature, Shakespeare, and colonial America, particularly examining how Shakespeare's works were used to teach 'refinement' to colonial elites in British America before 1725. This research is part of a broader project analyzing the circulation of English imprints across the seventeenth-century Atlantic World, including medical, devotional, and historical texts.
Teaching interests include 16th-17th century literature, colonialism, Shakespeare, Milton, sonnet traditions, and the intersection of literature with revolution and religious themes. She teaches courses on these topics and emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to cultural analysis.
