Soprano and Lecturer Jennifer Goltz-Taylor is affiliated with the Residential College and Department of Music at the University of Michigan. She holds a Ph.D. in Music Theory from the University of Michigan and specializes in new chamber music, opera, and cabaret performance. Her work emphasizes interpretive sensitivity and vocal virtuosity, inspiring composers to create works for her. She has collaborated extensively with composer-pianist Logan Skelton and is a founding member of the new music ensemble Brave New Works.
Key performances include roles in Kamran Ince’s opera Judgment of Midas (Naxos recording), John Berners’ Study on Peter, and Luciano Berio’s Circles at the Salzburg Music Festival. She has recorded for Naxos, Albany, Centaur, and other labels, earning critical acclaim for her Pierrot lunaire recording with Inauthentica, praised by Gramophone as “captivating” and “sprightly.”
Her career includes teaching at the University of Michigan and Scripps College, and leadership in ensembles like Present Music. She also led the Klezmer band Into the Freylakh, releasing The Shape of Klez to Come.
