Dr. Alexander W. Ravitz is an Assistant Professor of Clarinet at Arkansas State University and the University of Central Arkansas, where he teaches clarinet performance and mentors students. He also serves as Principal Bass Clarinetist of the Fort Smith Symphony (Arkansas) and has performed with ensembles such as The Naples Philharmonic, Opera Tampa, and The Florida Orchestra.

His interests also span jazz improvisation, with collaborations including The Jamison Williams Trio and his improv trio CRUX (self-titled CD on Noise Pelican label).
Current projects include a recording of Arnold Schoenberg's 'Pierrot Lunaire' with Dr. Megan Esther Grey and Brett Copeland’s reimagining of Górecki’s Symphony No. 3 for bass clarinet, tuba, and electronics, performed with his duo Sonic Doctors. He studied jazz with Dan Miller and conducting with William Wiedrich.
