Jane Ellsworth is a Professor of Music at Eastern Washington University, specializing in music history and clarinet performance. She holds a DMA and PhD in Music (Ohio State University) and degrees in clarinet performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Her expertise spans musicology, classical music, and clarinet studies.
Education: Bachelors and Masters in Clarinet Performance (Cleveland Institute of Music); Doctoral degrees in Clarinet Performance and Musicology (Ohio State University).
Research focuses on clarinet history and performance practices, reflected in her published works: The Clarinet (2021) and A Dictionary for the Modern Clarinetist (2015). She is currently writing The Clarinet in Eighteenth- and Nineteenth-Century America.
Performance: Active as a clarinetist and bass clarinetist, performing internationally with modern and historical instruments. She serves as bass clarinetist in the Spokane Symphony.
