Jennifer Formica is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Digital Art and Design at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), College of Arts & Sciences. She holds a B.F.A. and M.F.A. in Photography from the Hartford Art School and SUNY Buffalo, respectively.
Research and Artistic Focus:
- Botanical and microscopic imaging using traditional analog cameras, scanners, and microscopes.
- Integration of art and science through photogrammetry and digital processes.
- Chromogenic color printing and experimental techniques in nature photography.
Exhibitions and Publications:
- Exhibited at Flora-Fauna (Islip Art Museum), WOWbug & Other Micro-Nature (Khaki Gallery), She Blinded Me with Science (Gallery 138), and Micro Nature (Pelham Art Center).
- Featured in Robert Hirsch’s books Light & Lens: Photography in the Digital Age and Exploring Color Photography: From Film to Pixels.
- Work published in The New Yorker, BBC, and City Journal.
Awards:
- Oseroff Memorial Purchase Prize from CEPA Gallery, with her work in the permanent collection of Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
Commercial Collaborations:
- Images utilized for book covers, editorials, annual reports, catalogs, and websites by clients like Chanel, Elizabeth Arden, and the British Broadcasting Corporation.
