Jennifer Eyl is Associate Professor and Department Chair of Religion at Tufts University, with cross-appointments in Classical Studies, History, and affiliations with the Middle Eastern Studies Program, Medieval Studies Program, Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and the Tufts University Prison Initiative of Tisch College (TUPIT). She earned her PhD in Early Christianity from Brown University (2012) and has taught at Tufts since 2014.
- Research Focus: Christian Origins in the Roman Empire, Pauline Epistles, Divination, Gender in Antiquity, Digital Humanities.
- Key Publications: Signs, Wonders, and Gifts: Divination in the Letters of Paul (OUP, 2019), co-editor of Christian Tourist Attractions, Mythmaking, and Identity Formation (Bloomsbury, 2018).
Her recent articles analyze Paul’s theological language, ancient divination practices, and gender dynamics in early Christian groups. She serves on editorial boards for Religions in the Ancient Mediterranean and Library of New Testament Studies, and leads the Redescribing Christian Origins group.
