Dr Jen Southern is a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art and New Media at Lancaster University and Associate Director at the Centre for Mobilities Research. With over 25 years of international exhibitions, her hybrid practice combines arts and mobilities research through collaborative projects using GPS technology.
Her research explores:
- Shared authorship in art-technology collaborations
- Material-digital experiences in site-specific installations
- Participatory approaches through apps like 'Comob Net' and 'Landlines'
- Mobility in artistic practice from walking to flight simulations
Recent work examines Baradian agential realism and relational landscapes, exemplified in projects like 'Unstable Landscapes' (2017) involving communities, animals, and environments.
As Director of Mobilities Lab, she facilitates artist residencies, PhD supervision, and international workshops bridging academic and artistic mobilities research.
