Dr. Jeffrey Wigle serves as Professor and Department Head in the Department of Biochemistry and Medical Genetics at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba. He is additionally a Principal Investigator at the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, St. Boniface Hospital Albrechtsen Research Centre, focusing on developmental biology and cardiovascular disease mechanisms.
His educational qualifications are:
- Postdoctoral fellowship, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee
- PhD in Pharmacology, University of Ottawa
- Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biochemistry, Queen’s University
Dr. Wigle's research program investigates how homeobox transcription factors regulate cardiovascular development and disease. Key areas include lymphangiogenesis, angiogenesis, and the role of myofibroblasts in cardiac fibrosis. By studying embryonic pathways reutilized in disease, his work aims to uncover novel therapeutic targets for cardiovascular conditions.
He has been recognized with prestigious awards:
- Canadian Institutes of Health Research New Investigator Award
- Research Manitoba Chair
Dr. Wigle mentors graduate students and is currently accepting Master's and PhD candidates. His laboratory at the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences conducts cutting-edge research in transcriptional regulation of cardiovascular development and disease.
