Jeffrey Holt

Dr. Jeffrey Holt is Professor of Otolaryngology at Harvard Medical School and a principal investigator at Boston Children's Hospital's F.M. Kirby Neurobiology Center. His research examines sensory transduction in the inner ear, focusing on hair cell function, afferent neuron signaling, genetic causes of deafness/balance disorders, and gene therapy development. He directs the Holt/Geleoc Laboratory, which employs electrophysiology, imaging, and molecular approaches to study mechanotransduction channels and neural coding.

Research explores glutamate transport regulation, ion channel dynamics in hair cells, and activity-dependent synapse refinement. Therapeutic work includes viral vector development for restoring auditory-vestibular function in Usher syndrome models. Recent publications advance understanding of TMC channel complexes and inner ear organoid systems.
