Jeffrey Galak is an Associate Professor of Marketing at Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business, with a courtesy appointment in Social and Decision Sciences at the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Marketing from New York University’s Stern School of Business, along with an M.Phil. and B.S. from the same institution. His research focuses on consumer behavior, judgment and decision making, affective forecasting, and hedonic adaptation, exploring topics like gift-giving dynamics, political psychology, and workplace climate surveys. He serves as Editor at PLoS ONE and has led notable projects such as the 2019 Academic Marketing Climate Survey, analyzing workplace diversity and gender dynamics in academia.
Galak’s academic career includes roles as an Assistant Professor (2009–2014) and Associate Professor (2014–present) at CMU. His work has appeared in top journals including Journal of Consumer Research and Psychological Science, addressing issues like temporal satisfaction patterns, giver-recipient mismatches in gifts, and the influence of political ideology on consumer behavior.
